How Long Can I Use Slim Fast?

This is a question that often makes its way to our inbox and one that isn’t really addressed enough on the forums and weight loss sites. It’s important because when you take on the slim fast diet, you will be making certain nutritional changes which are certainly not recommended for the long term.



Most people take on the slim fast diet as a short term solution to lose a few pounds. In some cases the diet is taken on for months and users will often report staggering amounts of weight loss. The problem for some is where do you draw the line?

The answer to this question should be set out before you even start your diet. It is highly recommended you set yourself a realistic weight loss goal to shoot for and once achieved, then return your diet to some sort of normality. It is important to note at this point that normality does not include incorporating all the bad habits back into your life because your hard work will quickly be undone. Remember to eat in moderation, there’s nothing wrong with indulging once in a while in fact it’s a great way of rewarding your efforts, JUST IN MODERTATION!

So how long can I use slim fast? Well, it would be sensible to use the shakes for no more than 12 weeks and then have a break. Try to get some real food into your meals every day, for example not processed.  Having said 12 weeks is the optimum, many people stay on the diet for longer periods and many will use it only for a month.  It really depends on your goals and how well you respond. If you have set yourself realistic goals then there really should be no need to stay on the diet for longer periods.
