Tips How to Quit
Smoking
Overcoming an addiction is perhaps one of
the toughest things one can try and do. Not everyone in this
world quite understands the difficulty as some people are
simply resilient to any addictions. It is these people who
are usually the instigators and manage to get everyone else
hooked. This article intends to provide the cold hard facts
about quitting smoking and what it will take, there is no
point dressing it all up, it will be hard but it will be
worth it. Read on for the best tips how to quit
smoking....
The first thing that is absolutely
necessary in beating this addiction is willpower. I bet
you`ve heard that one before? Well its true, you will not
quit smoking without any willpower. Willpower is not hard to
get and keep, it may take you some effort to find the
willpower but what`s a little effort going to cost you?
Certainly not any money, certainly not your life. When I was
looking for willpower to quit smoking I decided to gather
pictures and phrases that highlighted the massive benefits
in quitting smoking. I had pictures of wads of cash to
remind me of the cash savings (I mean, in all honesty, the
cost is an absolute joke and should be enough to put you off
alone!). I had pictures of foreign climates as the money I
was saving from the fags was going straight into the bank
for a holiday. I tried to stay away from the nasty images of
diseased lungs as they don`t make for good viewing! Put
these pictures where you will see them day after day, I had
them as my desktop background and it worked very well.
Remember though, it’s not just about putting them there and
leaving them, you need to look at them every day and think
to yourself why you’re doing this, EVERY SINGLE DAY. Is it
hard? Not particularly, just spend a few minutes thinking,
contemplating....what’s hard about
that...??
Once you have installed some willpower,
you are very much on your way to quitting, you really
are. To make the
whole journey easier and more manageable, I would suggest
finding a buddy to quit with. Someone to take with you
through the highs and lows, someone to motivate you when you
need it most. I was lucky, I quit with the Mrs and we helped
each other a lot. In fact, before we decided to go on
holiday with the money we were saving, we put it in a jar
and if either of us caved in, the other got the money, (It
actually very quickly built up to over
$1000.00).
If you need to get the patches, get the
nicotine gum get whatever you need if it means you aren’t
smoking. I was always told to find something to replace the
cigarettes with and do that when you would normally smoke
but that is difficult. I did start swimming though, for some
reason exercise works very well in helping quitting smoking,
maybe it relieves the stress. I think the moral here is to
do more things, become active, it will help take your mind
of it.
I have spoken to many people who have
successfully give up smoking and they all have done it in
their own unique way. Everyone`s lifestyle is different and
you need to develop your own plan. Identify when you will be
more likely to give in and light up, whenever that weakness
is, make sure you are at your strongest, so you won’t cave
in.
This article has provided some helpful
tips how to quit smoking and hopefully you will have taken
something from it, mainly that with bags of willpower
anything is possible. Good luck, I wish you every
success.
