Best Acne Antibiotics

This article examines the different antibiotics used in the treatment of acne. The best acne antibiotics are obviously the ones which will reduce the inflammation and severity of nodules but as each patients case can be very different, there is no one standard antibiotic. They work by attacking the bacteria which causes the acne in the first place and if only used for short periods of time, this is an effective way of significantly reducing acne if not removing it completely.

Although there is no one antibiotic for the treatment of acne, there is one which is perhaps more prescribed than others and thus considered one of the best acne antibiotics. Tetracycline is the most prescribed drug for acne and is used until there is a visible improvement in the acne. The antibiotic is unsuitable for children under 8 as it may encourage teeth discolouration, it is also unsuitable for pregnant women as it can be detrimental to a foetus.   Tetracycline is more effective when taken on an empty stomach as it is absorbed at a much faster rate. Tetracycline has a high success rate when taken as per the doctors instructions and is definitely recognized as one of the best acne antibiotics available.    Erythromycin is also taken twice a day, but with food. It also has the advantage of reducing redness and inflammation in pimples, which tetracycline does not.

As with any antibiotic, they should be taken for short periods of time and then left alone. It is well documented that we are becoming more and more immune to antibiotics and by taking them for long periods of time or acne or any other complaint we run the risk of such immunity. It is also well noted that by taking antibiotics for acne we run the risk of killing of the good bacteria in our stomachs, when trying to kill off the bacteria causing the acne. This upsets the delicate chemical imbalance in our intestines and can lead to other problems.

Minocycline, erythromycin, doxycycline, and clindamycin are some of the other commonly prescribed acne treatments.  Tetracycline, erythromycin, and benzoyl peroxide are more common and widely prescribed. Doxycycline is called upon when patients do not respond positively or are developing allergic reactions to the aforementioned medicines.

There is no real way of identifying the best acne antibiotic, as mentioned above each case is judged entirely on its own merits and may warrant a different form of treatment. However in terms of popularity or most prescribed drug, the best acne antibiotics in this case are Tetracycline and Minocycline and are also two of the most effective.
