Barriers to Achieving Weight Loss

Every weight loss regime will encounter obstacles and these obstacles can potentially deteriorate all your efforts. The way you deal with these obstacles can have a massive bearing on whether you continue on the right path. It is a very good idea to identify these obstacles before they occur so that you can prepare the right way to deal with them and continue on the right path. Getting used to identifying your obstacles and creating plans to remove them is a big step towards long term success.

There are many obstacles you may come across on your plan and perhaps the most common one is lack of time. We all have busy schedules with work and family commitments but it is important to realize that it doesn’t take hours and hours of exercise to make a difference and make weight loss work for you. If your pushed for time, get up half an hour earlier and exercise in the morning. It is a well known fact that newbie dieters stick to their regimes more if they exercise in the morning. It is thought this is because of the feel good factor exercise gives you and sets you up for the rest of the day. If you schedule in short exercise blocks for the morning and make sure you have lots of reminders so its fixed in your head you will shatter the time obstacle to peices.

Another common obstacle is based on pure laziness and that is the exercise is just too much effort. Some newbie`s perceive any form of physical activity as something very skilful that only talented people can do. This is absolute rubbish, anyone can run or use a bike! If its a confidence issue there are many DVDs that can help you have a very good work out, right in front of the idiot box. Think of exercise as being an absolute necessity to being healthy (just as it is), without it you are increasing the risk of heart disease and so on.

If you’re suffering from a lack of self-esteem, which brings an end to so many people’s efforts, then record your results. If you run, time how long it takes you to complete your circuit and then try and beat it the next time. If you do, it will give you a great sense of achievement and a willingness to get out there and beat it again.

The last of the more common obstacles people need to overcome is a lack of support. Support is extremely important and the most support will come from your partner. Make sure they know what you want to achieve and they can give you the encouragement that will often come in very handy in times of negativity. Make sure you know the difference between people who are supportive and the people who just want to sabotage your efforts. People attempt to stop your efforts because often they know they should be doing the same thing, can`t be bothered but don’t want to see someone else be successful, nice eh! Ignore these people, they are jealous and just think how nice it would be when you are looking and feeling great and they are still in the same boat.

You will be more aware of the obstacles that stand in your way and it is up to you to identify them and build an action plan to get through them. Once you have, you will feel very confident in the future and in tackling anything that dares to stand in your way. GOOD LUCK!
